The Stranglers

Tuesday 6th August 2024
Big Top, Lodge Grounds
8pm-11pm

£44.50

First formed in 1974, The Stranglers no bullsh*t attitude was embraced by the punk movement of the late 70s. But their musicianship and menace transcended the genre, creating a sound unique to themselves. With their first three albums (Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes and Black and White) being released within an astonishing 13 months of each other, scoring hit singles with ‘Peaches’, ‘No More Heroes’ and ‘Walk On By’. Further success was to follow with ‘Always The Sun’, ‘Strange Little Girl’ and the mercurial ‘Golden Brown’, amongst many others, earning the group 24 Top 40 singles and 19 Top 40 albums in a career spanning six different decades.

With this unique Stranglers sound, combining a brilliant melodic touch with a dark aggression and effortless cool, The Stranglers are now recognised as one of the most credible and influential bands to have emerged from the punk era.

In 2019, they released their 19th studio album, “Dark Matters.” Reaching No4 in the UK album charts, this innovative album pushed the boundaries of their sound, incorporating elements of electronic and alternative rock showcasing the band’s continued creativity and fearless exploration of new musical territories.

As The Stranglers approach their 50th anniversary in 2024, their upcoming milestone serves as a testament to their enduring legacy. With a rich musical history and a forward-thinking approach, The Stranglers remain an enduring force in the ever-evolving world of rock music. Their unwavering dedication to their craft, their ability to connect with audiences worldwide, and their commitment to pushing musical boundaries continue to set them apart and solidify their status as one of Britain’s most iconic and influential rock bands.
