Ever wanted to know more about the species living in the rockpools of North Berwick? Join the Scottish Seabird Centre team for their new session, aka “rockpooling for grown-ups”!

Take a more in-depth look into the world of rocky shore ecology, learn how to identify different species, and appreciate the variety of creatures on our doorstep.

The session will start with a presentation, followed by a guided walk on the rocky shore, before ending with a look at some of our finds under a microscope and discussion around marine citizen science projects.

Ages 16+. No prior knowledge or experience required.

Location: Participants to meet at the Scottish Seabird Centre’s Learning Hub (building across from the main Seabird Centre). Guided walk will take place on East Beach rocky shore, a short walk from the Scottish Seabird Centre.

What will we provide? Trays, buckets and alcohol hand-gel for outdoor element. An FSC Identification chart for each participant. A full health and safety briefing will take place before heading to the shore and members of the team will be on hand throughout to provide information and help participants find and identify species.

What do you need to bring? Wellies, walking boots or shoes with good grip, clothing appropriate for the weather outside, a drink and any medication you may need.

Accessibility: Unfortunately, this event is not suitable for wheelchair users or pushchairs. Access to the shore involves a short walk (~200m) consisting of footpaths and sandy beach. Once on the shore, surfaces will be uneven and slippery and require extra care when crossing./
