Fringe by the Sea, winner of 2023 VisitScotland’s Thistle Award for Outstanding Festival, today announced that tickets for a first tranche of events across its music, comedy, conversation and family programmes, will go on sale from 3pm on Friday 23 February

Quite possibly the most recognisable family in music history, The Jacksons head to the Big Top on Friday 9th August 2024. Consisting of original members Tito Jackson, Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson, The Jacksons, with their combination of extraordinary musical talent and spectacular choreography, put on an amazing show that includes all their mega-hits made famous with their brothers, Jermaine and Michael Jackson. The Jacksons are inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, have five #1 albums, 18 #1 hits, 17 top 10 albums, 17 top 40 singles which include their most notable songs such as “ABC”, “I Want You Back”, “I’ll Be There”, “Rockin’ Robin”, “Blame It On The Boogie”, and many more.

Ibiza favourites and Grammy Award winning, Hot Chip are renowned for their DJ sets all over the world.  This time they join up with Hayley Zalassi who, with her undeniable stage presence and magnetic energy has quickly stamped her name on the UK’s underground music scene.  The Fringe By The Sea DJ nights have proven to be a time when the whole town starts jumping and 2nd August will see a banging beginning to the festival.

From his breakthrough film, Withnail & I to last year’s internationally acclaimed Saltburn, Richard E Grant has never been away from the screen for long having appeared in over 80 films and television shows.  With his book, A Pocketful of Happiness  he tells stories from his life, entwining tales from his extraordinary time in showbiz with uplifting reflections on love and loss.

Everyone should put their rubbish out on the first Friday of the festival as the Trash Test Dummies are on duty! This award-winning, side-splitting, slapstick comedy circus routine takes the household wheelie bin to new heights, and delivers a dump truck full of hilarity.  A family show favourite from festivals around the world the Trash Test Dummies are as full of laughs as their bins are full of surprises

Award-winning journalist, news anchor and presenter Clive Myrie will talk about his life and his deeply personal memoir Everything is Everything on Sunday 11th August.

Family fun is on the cards as Horrible Histories brings it stage show ‘Rotten Royals’ to Fringe by the Sea. Their only Scottish date, it’s a sure-fire show for entertaining all ages on Tuesday 6th August.

A joyous finale is in store as the infectious and uplifting House Gospel Choir close the festival on Sunday 11th August, supported by North Berwick’s own Gospel Choir.

North Berwick Trust have announced their support of Fringe by the Sea 2024 as a Master Partner with three years of grant funding, totalling £32,000. The hub of the festival will once be again in North Berwick’s Lodge Grounds, where The Trust will showcase its work as well support the involvement of other community groups at the event.

The Economic Impact Report (EIR) for last year’s Fringe By The Sea undertaken by MKA Economics has shown that Fringe By The Sea is now a major financial boost for North Berwick and East Lothian.  The net additional impact of visitor spend during the ten days between 4-13 August, when the 14th FBTS festival was held in North Berwick, was in the region of £7,313,884 which is a 14% increase on 2022.  It attracted a total number of 74,750 visitors, 31% up on 2022; the event has grown year on year since it started in 2008.

Festival Director Rory Steel said: “Off the back of an incredible buzz from 2023, and being named best Scottish festival, we’re excited to be able to announce our feel-good first wave of acts for this year. The Jacksons will get the Big Top moving to their legendary Motown hits while on the opening night, Hot Chip DJs and Scottish house queen Hayley Zalassi deliver the dance grooves. We’re in for some fascinating conversations from Clive Myrie, seriously uplifting joy from House Gospel Choir and family fun for all with Horrible Histories’ only Scottish stage show. That’s just the first taste – and we can’t wait! As always, it’s a big team and community effort to make it all happen and we’re hugely grateful to North Berwick Trust for supporting us once again as Master Partner, helping us create connections in community through our diverse programme of culture and arts.”
