Exploding out of Edinburgh at the dying end of the twentieth century, Bombskare is Scotland’s premier ska juggernaut, renowned for their high-octane performances, crackerjack timing and impeccable dress sense. One of the tightest live bands in the UK, Bombskare has been delivering infectious, energy-packed ska for a quarter of a century. Blending classic Jamaican ska beats with punk, rock, and a twisted dose of dark humour, they’ve been a staple on the UK festival circuit for decades, captivating audiences with their upbeat melodies, devastating rhythms and hardcore hornography.
Bombskare’s debut album, A Fistful of Dynamite (2009), universally agreed as the greatest debut since ‘Straight Outta Compton’(!), saw the transition from live chaos to studio magic, while The Day the Earth Stood Stupid (2013), drew on their love of pop culture and B-movie nostalgia to showcase the band’s versatility as songwriters, without yielding an inch in energy.
In 2016, Bombskare’s talent was recognised nationally when they won the BBC’s “UK’s Best Part-Time Band” competition, cementing their status as ska legends. With their third album, A Million Ways to Die (2019), the band continues to evolve while staying true to their roots, serving up a blend of danceable grooves, punchy lyrics, and punchable brass.
2025 sees the release of Bombskare’s fourth studio outing, an 18-track tour de force, recorded during a live hiatus, and sees the band take a darker turn, both musically and lyrically, while remaining recognisably Bombskare. It showcases an increasingly diverse range of influences; from Jamaican dance halls to TV show themes, from AC-DC to XTC, you can detect it all. No genre is off limits, no cow is too sacred. All ska, zero filler, every cut a dance floor filler.
Whether headlining a festival stage or playing to packed club venues, Bombskare never fails to deliver a powerhouse performance that is guaranteed to leave a mark. Year on year, they remain at the forefront of the UK ska scene, earning them a dedicated following and making them a must-see live act.
