Belle and Sebastian will celebrate 30 years of ‘If You’re Feeling Sinister’ by performing the iconic album in full at Fringe by the Sea, followed by a second set of classic tunes.
First released in 1996, the record has long-since attained mythic status – “greatest of all time” list fixtures with songs that have spent decades populating mixtapes and playlists. The Guardian praised ‘If You’re Feeling Sinister’ as “subtly poetic, wickedly funny, and gorgeously melodic.”
One of Scotland’s most beloved indie-pop bands, Belle and Sebastian pair thoughtful, relatable lyrics with warm melodic arrangements. Led by Stuart Murdoch, their unmistakable sound and timeless song-writing have earned them a worldwide audience and long standing place at the heart of Scotland’s music scene.
Forming in Glasgow in 1994, Belle and Sebastian have become one of the country’s most enduring and influential indie-pop bands. Over the course of 12 studio albums, the have received wide-spread critical claim and a loyal global following. Their accolades include ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ at the NME Awards in 2014 and Best Newcomer at The Brits in 1999, recognising their lasting impact on modern music.
Belle and Sebastian’s music has reached even wider audiences through numerous TV and film features. Their much loved track ‘The Boy With The Arab Strap’ became instantly recognisable after soundtracking the end credits of the TV hit series ‘Teachers’, while other catalogue favourites have appeared across international cinema and television including 2007’s hot film, Juno.
