A new immersive installation by environmental arts collective And If Not Now, led by visual artist Karen Lamond and sound designer Philip Pinsky. Ghosts of Refraction is the the latest in a series of works following The Forecast: Imminent, Rising, Becoming Severe, which debuted at Fringe By The Sea last year. This project uses James Clerk Maxwell’s 1860 colour perception experiments as a visual and sonic metaphor for the fragmentation of nature caused by human intercession, and the necessity of harmonic balance to restore ecological order. The aim of this project is to bring awareness to and promote action
towards the climate crisis.
Presented as an immersive sound and light experience, using the 19th century illusion technique of Pepper’s Ghost, the viewer observes the phenomena of refraction and reintegration of sound and image in an original, uncanny and compelling form.
